Five men in cowboy hats and suits with musical instruments, posing outside.

Kansas City country and western band Slim Hanson & The Poor Choices perform classic and original honky-tonk tunes at the Ruin!

The Ruin becomes a dance floor for a boot stompin’ good time!

The five-man group formed from a shared love of classic country music. That surely shows in the Poor Choices, featuring Beau Bledsoe on electric guitar and vocals, John Currey on drums, Slim Hanson on guitar and vocals, Jeff Freling on electric bass, and Marco Pascalini on the steel pedal guitar.

Dressed in cowboy boots and suits, Slim Hanson & The Poor Choices share songs of love, loss and life. The group has a longstanding gig at The Ship in Kansas City and regularly collaborates with other musicians to infuse different sounds into their work. One such example is their recent partnership with Los Texmaniacs and Mireya Ramos, Latin Grammy Award winner and past Volland exhibitor, for a program that shares the history of music along the United States-Mexican border.

Local chef Adam Waechter is serving pulled pork, potato salad, and cowboy beans!
