Join Osage ephemeral artist Lydia Cheshewalla and prairie preservationist Alex Barron for a day in the tallgrass prairie collecting wildflower seeds and learning about local ecology.
Participants will learn how to identify prairie plants, what these plants do in their ecosystem, and how to collect and clean their seeds for future propagation. This event will begin at Volland with a brief orientation, then participants will caravan to the field work site for a few hours of collecting, before returning to Volland for a short demonstration on seed cleaning.
Participants are invited to take home seeds they collect to add to their own gardens or prairie restoration projects.
Participants will be provided with a small kit for gathering seeds. Please bring your own scissors and gloves if possible.
Dress appropriately for hiking in tallgrass and the weather. Snacks provided.
