ZHANG HONGTU | Artist. From China, Hongtu has lived in the US for many years. Hongtu’s first Midwest solo exhibit occurred in the Fall of 2018 at the Beach Museum at K-State. While in Kansas, he became intrigued with bison and the prairie. He returns to the Flint Hills for the birthing season of the bison and will be an artist-in-residence at Volland in June 2019. You will be the first to hear about his new work inspired by our tall grass prairie.

MARY PINARD | Poet. Professor at Babson College in Boston. Mary loves the Flint Hills. We love Mary. Her poetry and readings are extraordinary. This is her third residency at Volland, and it coincides with Hongtu’s time here, creating Volland’s first multi-disciplinary residency.

BBQ IN THE BLACKSMITH SHOP... beginning at 5:00. Reservations by June 3 please.

CHEROKEE MAIDENS AND SYCAMORE SWING | They croon. They scat. They swing and sing like Bing. Think Bob Wills meets the Andrews Sisters. One was a Dixie Chick. Two have appeared on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Two have sung at the Grand Ole Opry. Guitar-slinger Kentucky White leads Sycamore Swing, a troupe of crackerjack musicians featuring some of the fabled Tulsa Playboys – notably the Eichers and Steve Bagsby.

Join us for a Saturday of Fun at Volland!
