R O B  M A N E S  has been with the Conservancy for 12 years, the last 6 in his current role as state director. He is responsible for all aspects of the Conservancy’s work in Kansas, including conservation, administration, and fundraising. He also serves as co-lead for the Central Great Plains Grasslands Initiative. He has spent more than 35 years in the conservation field, including 20 with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. He represents the Conservancy on several national and federal boards such as the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and the Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council. Rob holds a master’s degree in environmental science from Friends University.

Rob is a scientist who understands not only the ecology of the Flint Hills but the beauty as well. He understands that wild places are important. He is as passionate as he is articulate, and that should come as no surprise. In an earlier life Rob aspired to be a rock star, a musician, a singer and a guitar player.

Rob will enlighten us about the science of the Flint Hills and will bring Heather Miller, an accomplished songstress, to join him in entertaining us with music.
