Volland is excited to share this new concert experience designed by our friends John Depew and Beth Watts Nelson. This performance will mark John's third time sharing his musical talents at Volland and Beth's return to Volland after her 2025 Volland Residency. Prepare to gather around food, music and singing!
The evening will begin at 6pm with a dinner of pulled pork or chicken thighs (both with Jonny's famous potato salad) from Jonny V's BBQ. Adult beverages will be available by donation throughout the evening.
Beginning at 7pm, John and Beth will share original music, then begin to walk the audience through an "immersive concert experience," one part listening and another part participating. As the evening progresses, John and Beth will increasingly engage the participation by the audience. Given the pair's bluegrass sound, expect to contribute to notable songs like "I’ll Fly Away," "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," and "Fox on the Run."
Don't have singing experience or haven't given it a go in a while, you say? Not to worry. Beth is a trained choir teacher and has been sharing similar programs for years with the Notorious Chorus. She shares "I can get a group to harmonize in five minutes" and regularly gets audience members comfortable enough to sing solo by the end of her programs. Past Volland patrons will remember John Depew's penchant for crowd engagement. John likes to share stories, go off the cuff, and get his listeners in on the music.
The community choir that is formed over the course of the evening will culminate in an a cappella performance that will rock the house!!
The newly minted performers will be rewarded with coffee and dessert following the performance. Join us for an evening of food, good laughs, and melodious delight!
