Cathleen Faubert & Kate McIntyre

Two Former Volland Residents Returned in 2025 for a Collaborative Project

Before their 2024 Volland Residencies, Cathleen Faubert and Kate McIntyre did not know each other. Cathleen, who lives in Norman, OK where she teaches at the University of Oklahoma, works in olfactory, or scent, mapping. Kate, originally from Salina, KS, now resides in Massachusetts where she teaches creative writing at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and maintains a practice writing fiction, essays, and flash fiction.

During their residencies in the Spring of 2024, the two shared a living space at the Grimm-Schultz Farmstead down the road from Volland-proper and found inspiration in each other's work.

Kate and Cat (as they became known) stayed in touch and looked for ways to bridge their two mediums. In the Summer of 2025 they returned to Volland to collaborate on a multi-media, collaborative project delving into history, land use, human history, and botany.

Their studio ultimately became an installation piece, where maps, pamphlets, and antique store finds met desiccated plants, final drafts and glassware.
