G.C. Waldrep  & Joanna Stratton Roze
Free Admission | Light Refreshments Served

G.C. Waldrep and Joanna Roze will share works in progress and past work on the afternoon of October 11th. This Open Studio coincides with the final day to see Elijah Gowin's The Last Firefly.

G.C. Waldrep is the author of eight collections of poetry, most recently The Opening Ritual (Tupelo, 2024), which was one of New York Times' five best poetry books of that year. Waldrep’s work has received awards from the Poetry Society of America and the Academy of American Poets as well as the Colorado Prize (for his first collection, Goldbeater’s Skin), the Dorset Prize (for his third collection, Archicembalo), the Campbell Corner Prize, three Pushcart Prizes, and a 2007 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Literature.

For his Open Studio, Waldrep will share both new work from his time at Volland along with pieces from past projects.

Joanna Stratton Roze is known both locally and internationally for her 1982 book Pioneer Women: Voices from the Kansas Frontier. Joanna was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and calls Mercer Island, WA home now, but family ties to Kansas fostered a "lifelong appreciation" for the tallgrass prairie.

During her residency, Joanna examined the Flint Hills through her camera. For her Open Studio, Joanna will share images and reflections on her four-week exploration into the communities, people, life ways, and landscape that shape this region.
