SPRING RESIDENTS OPEN STUDIOS

Volland Residents enjoy sharing their work with the community. They like to meet people and hear what they think. While we never require residents to give a formal presentation, we support them when they express a desire to engage with the community.

Sunday, April 27, 2025 | 2pm

A casual meet-and-greet with residents of the first spring session of the Volland Residency

Singer-songwriter fidde-banjo-guitar player Beth Watts Nelson will be offering music, and will take time to talk and answer your questions. Trey Moody will read his poetry and engage you in conversation. Caroline Honas will welcome you to her studio to see what she’s been working on – drawings for planning her next body of work, with maybe the beginnings of new paintings. While Rebecca Gilman isn't able to present due to the nature of her work, she will be present to meet you.

They look forward to meeting and visiting with you, telling you about their work and answering your questions.

Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop with 2025 Volland Resident Kendall Grady

Free Workshop | RSVP Required here

2025 Volland Resident Kendall Grady will host an ekphrastic poetry workshop on May 10th, 2025. Set against the backdrop of Mark McHenry’s striking sculptures along the Nature & History Trail at Volland, Grady will guide participants in crafting their own ekphrastic poems—imaginative pieces that bring the art to life through words. The workshop begins with a guided walk and discussion of the sculptures, followed by structured writing time and prompts to spark creativity. Participants will then have the chance to share their newly written work in an informal, supportive group setting. All levels are welcome!

Jazz and Conversation with 2025 Volland Resident Rob Scheps

Admission is free. Reservation appreciated here

Join acclaimed jazz musician and 2025 Volland Resident Rob Scheps for an afternoon of music and conversation at Volland. With a career spanning decades and collaborations with legendary figures in jazz, Scheps brings both masterful musicianship and a wealth of stories to share. This intimate session will feature live performances—primarily on saxophone, with occasional pieces on flute—interwoven with personal anecdotes from his life in jazz, his creative practice, and reflections on his time as a Volland Resident. Scheps’ improvisational spirit and rich storytelling will offer a dynamic soundtrack to the closing weeks of MAY TVEIT: JOURNEY, creating a powerful dialogue between sound, space, and art.
